Recommendations for remote monitoring and examples in this paper are limited to circuit breakers, switchgear, and load interrupters rated from 1kV–52kV. Given the criticality of these types of equipment, inasmuch as they often represent a single point of failure on branch circuits and even feeders, the value of remote monitoring is enhanced. Further, given the complex operational nature of the mechanisms, there are a myriad of possible causes for reduced performance or equipment failure, many of which share a similar level of probability. Finally, much of the equipment at voltages above 52kV already benefit from remote monitoring, so advocacy related to that class of equipment is not necessary
