As the leading organization in the fire and life safety industry, NFPA is proud to announce the release of the 21st edition of our flagship publication, the Fire Protection Handbook (FPH).
Regarded as the most comprehensive resource in the industry, the FPH is a one-of-a-kind reference guide for professionals and students across a wide range of industries worldwide. With input from more than 200 industry specialists and NFPA subject matter experts, the 21st edition is a fire protection encyclopedia with 210 revised and updated chapters, 21 sections grouped by industry topic, full-color images, and accompanying index tabs for navigation.
First published in 1896 as the Handbook of the Underwriter's Bureau of New England, the FPH has been regularly updated to reflect the latest fire protection and fire safety information, research and data, emerging technologies, and safety practices. The new edition addresses many current and emerging issues and related hazards in a rapidly changing world, including wildfire and the Wildland/Urban Interface, smart infrastructure, fire protection, and active shooter/hostile event operations.
As industry practitioners advance in their careers and new workers enter the labor force, the FPH provides answers to their fire protection questions, giving them the opportunity to enhance their understanding of a given concept and put that knowledge into practice to help safeguard lives and property and mitigate hazards in their communities.
In an industry that prioritizes certifications and the training of personnel, the FPH also forms the required body of knowledge for candidates pursuing the NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) exam, internationally recognized as the gold standard in certification for fire protection professionals to demonstrate their proficiency in fire safety, protection, prevention, and suppression technologies. A newly revised certification exam that aligns with the updated FPH will be available at a later date.
NFPA is committed to providing the fire and life safety industry with the most comprehensive and up-to-date information, and the 21st edition of the FPH is a testament to that commitment. The FPH is now available for pre-order, with an expected delivery date by March 3. Visit the NFPA catalog for more information.
