In response to the Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requesting information on “Buy America Requirements related to EV Chargers,” National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) President and CEO Debra Phillips issued the following statement:
“America’s EV charging manufacturers will play an integral role in modernizing the nation’s transportation infrastructure, and we share the goal of fostering and strengthening our domestic manufacturing and supply chain capabilities for EV charging equipment. Unlocking opportunities for American businesses and workers through increased transportation electrification will enhance the quality of life for all Americans, grow our economy, protect the environment, and serve the nation’s long-term interests.”
“However, we would caution that, like other industries, EV chargers rely heavily on semiconductors, circuit boards, advanced power electronics, and other products that are in short supply during the pandemic. These continued and growing constraints could impact product delivery time and slow the ability to achieve the goals of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act recently passed by Congress. NEMA has outlined specific ideas for helping to ensure that EV charging equipment manufacturers can meet Buy America requirements.”
“NEMA members have a keen understanding of the ways federal policy can help drive investments in new markets and expand existing ones. We are committed to sharing our perspective with the Administration to foster responsible right-shoring and other policies affecting the EV charging equipment sector.”
