ARLINGTON, VA — Yesterday, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the GridWise Alliance hosted the 2024 Congressional Grid Innovation Expo at the Rayburn House Office Building. Held in collaboration with the bipartisan House Grid Innovation Caucus, guests enjoyed a showcase of innovative products, technologies, and systems which are currently elevating the reliability of our nation’s electric distribution grids and advancing the grid of the future.
Attendees also heard from bipartisan House Grid Innovation Caucus Co-Chairs Bob Latta (OH-05) and Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) about how federal and private investments can work together to modernize grid infrastructure. From EV charging to energy storage, to microgrids, to smart cities and communities, electrical manufacturers and utilities are leading the deployment of smart solutions to transform our nation’s grid.
“NEMA remains laser-focused on bolstering our nation’s electrical manufacturing sector and creating solutions that help the grid stay resilient,” said Debra Phillips, President and CEO, NEMA. “The products displayed at our 2024 Congressional Grid Innovation Expo are examples of essential technologies that will help us further these goals by balancing energy demand, mitigating physical and cyber security threats, and accelerating the all-electric future. We thank GridWise Alliance and our partners in Congress, Reps. Latta and Strickland, for their continued work and support alongside us on these pressing issues.”
“Our GridWise Alliance members are excited to share the latest in innovative grid technologies with Members of Congress, their staff, and the public at this year’s Grid Innovation Expo. Investments in grid modernization will be critical to securing our grid, improving reliability, enhancing resilience, and supporting decarbonization,” said Karen Wayland, CEO, The GridWise Alliance.
“In Washington state, we are continually working to update our antiquated electric infrastructure – an issue that many other states also face,” said Rep. Marilyn Strickland (WA-10). “Modernizing our grid is a public safety issue, a national security and readiness issue, and a climate issue. I look forward to working with Rep. Latta, NEMA, GridWise, and the experts in the industry to help us get this right.”
“The annual Congressional Grid Innovation Expo provided a great opportunity for manufacturers and electric companies to display and discuss the latest innovative technologies that are making the electric grid more reliable, resilient, and secure. From increasing grid efficiency to implementing defenses that protect against cyberattacks, there is much work to be done to safeguard this critical infrastructure. As a member of the Energy & Commerce Committee and co-chair of the Grid Innovation Caucus, I’m committed to this worthwhile endeavor,” said Rep. Bob Latta (OH-05).
