Outlet & Switchbox
Outlet and switch boxes contain wire, taps, splices,
or devices in an electrical wiring system. A box may have openings for
the entry of conduit, tubing, or cable assemblies, as well as for a
cover, which closes the box or provides support for devices or fixtures.
Metallic,
nonmetallic, and composite electrical boxes are used in applications of
1,000 volts AC and 1,200 volts DC or less. Products include boxes that
are 100 cubic inches or smaller, box covers, multiple gang device boxes
greater than 100 cubic inches, floor boxes, specialty boxes, utility
boxes, bar hangers, extension rings, and box accessories.
NEMA members develop domestic and international Standards that aid in market development of outlet and switch boxes.
