Through NEMA’s Cybersecurity Council, NEMA is leading the industry to identify Standards, best practices, and liability limitations related to cybersecurity for the electrical grid.
Since 2013, NEMA has been working to identify guidelines that electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers can implement during product development to minimize the possibility that bugs, malware, viruses, or other exploits can be used to negatively
impact product operation.

NEMA is also supporting cybersecurity information sharing legislation in Congress to provide liability protection to companies that share information about cybersecurity attacks with federal agencies or private-sector entities. Such legislation would
facilitate the sharing of critical information that could help others defend against similar cyberattacks; without liability protection, many companies would keep information about cybersecurity attacks private, which limits the ability of others
to learn from past attacks and prepare for future attacks.
