NEMA Senior Program Manager Brian Marchionini presented on energy storage codes and Standards activities at the U.S.-Africa Clean Energy Standards Program workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa. His presentation highlighted the new NEMA ESS 1 Standard for uniformly measuring and expressing the performance of electrical energy storage systems. ANSI organized the workshop in coordination with Eskom, the South African utility. Eskom is considering Standards-related aspects of energy storage systems to support their upcoming procurement of 360 MW/1440 MWh of battery energy storage. Attendance at the meeting helped keep NEMA engaged in regional activities and facilitate information exchange. ei
