Electric Vehicle Charging Ordinance Passes in NYC

A new ordinance (Int. No 1176) and addition to the electrical requirements to new parking lots and garages and all modifications to existing lots and garages must provide provisions for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations has been passed by the City Council of New York City.

The new requirement will require the new parking areas to install provisions for the installation of wiring for 20% of the available spaces. This requires a minimum of a 1 inch conduit to these spaces for a minimum load requirement of 3.1 kW. The space will also have to meet the requirement to place a 3.1 kW cabinet/charging stations in these dedicated spaces.
