The Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) indices gauge the business confidence of the electroindustry in Asia, Europe, North America, and Latin America, and are based on the results of a monthly survey of senior managers at NEMA member companies. Those companies represent more than 80 percent of the electroindustry.

May 2013NEMA’s Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) for current conditions in North America declined in May, falling from 66.7 in April to 55.9, but continued to show signs of improvement in the business environment by remaining above the 50-point mark. Confidence in future business conditions also declined in May but remained firmly in positive territory. The EBCI for North American conditions six months hence retreated in May to 76.5 from 80.6 in April. By contrast, confidence in future business conditions declined in April but remains firmly in positive territory. The EBCI for North American conditions six months hence retreated by just over 10 points in April to 80.6 from 90.9 in March. By contrast, confidence in future business conditions continues to build, as the EBCI for North American conditions six months hence climbed by nearly 10 points in March to 90.9, the highest level for the forward looking index in a decade. Meanwhile, while the EBCI for future North American conditions retreated slightly in February, it remained in historically elevated territory at 81. The nearly 10 point gain relative to December brought the index to its highest level since the Great Recession.
