Kite & Key 2007 Recipients


Robert Boteler
Director of Marketing, Industrial Solutions Motors, Emerson Motor Company

Has been a champion on energy efficiency for his industry, and has served as the chairman of the Motor Industry Promotion Committee. He is the industry brainchild behind “NEMA Premium®,” which was first established for premium-efficiency motors. He has been active on legislative and regulatory energy matters dating from the Energy Policy Act of 1992 through the present energy bill in the 110th Congress. Through his leadership, the industry has taken center stage in defining the benefits of energy-efficient motors and the proper application of motors. He has served on the NEMA Energy Policy Task Force, and is a regular contributor to discussion and debate within NEMA on energy policy matters. His has worked effectively to integrate the motor standards work and marketing data in advancing proposals in the legislative and regulatory arenas. Rob is well respected by his peers, and is a frequent speaker at domestic and international venues for the U.S. electric motor industry.

Donald Mader
Senior Vice President, Underwriters Laboratories

Has worked with NEMA for at least 25 years on a variety of activities ranging from conformity assessment to UL follow-up services. He has committed attention and energy toward everything from the NEMA/UL Policy Committee to day-to-day issues involving specific NEMA product sections. Don was and continues to be a trusted resource on the UL staff with whom NEMA staff consult on process issues as well as high-level policy issues. The bestowing of the Kite and Key Award on Don acknowledges the huge contribution that he has made to NEMA, to the NEMA/UL relationship, and to NEMA member companies during his long and distinguished career at UL.

Everett Scherrer
Vice President of Technical Services, Rea Magnet Wire Co.

Has been an active participant in the NEMA Magnet Wire Section for more than 30 years. During this time, he has volunteered to serve in a number of leadership capacities for the industry, including serving as past chairman of the Magnet Wire Section Technical Committee. Ev has been an active member of this influential industry group for decades, consistently providing valuable technical expertise toward development and maintenance of NEMA MW 1000, Magnet Wire, the premiere magnet wire standard recognized and used throughout the world. In the international standards community, he has represented the United States National Committee on IEC TC 55, Winding Wires, taking the lead role on numerous IEC standards development and maintenance projects, and has served the United States well as the technical advisor of the USNC Technical Advisory Group to TC 55, by building consensus U.S. positions on international standards. NEMA is proud to present this year’s Kite and Key Award to a most deserving leader—Everett Scherrer.
